The major components of Power Apps –
Check out this post first if you are unfamiliar with PowerApps; it’s been written specifically for you. It explains everything there is to know about PowerApps.
Within the app, the data can be visualized in a gallery format. It is a pre-made set of screens that guides navigating the data and viewing it. You might, for instance, have a gallery that provides a screen for seeing all records, another screen for viewing a specific record, and yet another screen for editing a record.
A gallery is formed by the conglomeration of all of the screens. When you build a new app, you get several different galleries from which to choose. When you develop an app from a SharePoint list, you will be provided with a default gallery pre-built for you.
A screen is a technique to visualize a certain data set or record on a computer, as was said in the section that came before this one (mobile, iPad, Desktop). In most cases, you will have one for viewing all records, one for viewing a specific record, and one for editing.
The screens are already pre-built for you when you create an app from a template. Once again, this is a huge time saver (they are part of a gallery you choose above). However, if more screens are required, you can add them as needed.
Cards make up what is known as a screen. A card is an area on the display that shows a provided record from the SharePoint list or another database you used to create an app. You can use a card to display information in a variety of ways. For instance, if you had a SharePoint list responsible for holding project names & you created a PowerApp from this listing, a single card may contain a Project Name field, a Project Manager field, a Project Type field, or a Status field.
A card would include all of the various properties (referred to as Controls in PowerApp – more on what these are in a bit) relevant to the display of the record. As an illustration, the Status field seen in the figure to the right of this one is represented on a card by a Drop-Down control that accepts input and a label simply titled “Status.”
Controls provide you with the ability to visualize & interact with the records in your collection. Using the Status field as an example again, the drop-down menu used to select the Project Status is an example of control.
Different controls are available to you depending on the nature of the field you’re working with. For instance, the selection process on the mobile app could be made more sophisticated by providing you with either a radio button or a toggle switch rather than a drop-down menu.
Every control has its own set of characteristics. A text entry box, for instance, may have properties for the font size, font colour, & fill colour of the text box, amongst other things.
After selecting a property, the drop-down menu labelled Properties is located on the left side of the screen. The panel on the right side of the screen provides access to the property’s properties and allows for their modification.
The functions are the means through which one can interact with and modify the characteristics. If you are acquainted with Excel, you are already in luck because the syntax for PowerApps features is equivalent to Excel.
If you are not familiar with Excel, you will need to familiarize yourself with Excel. The following is an illustration of how you can make use of the Formula (If Statement) to alter the Property (Color) of a Control (Text) based on the value that is contained within the field.
