Preparation is indeed a key element towards success. As Benjamin Franklin puts it, “By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail.”
As something highly anticipated as the 11 Plus Exams, 11 Plus Practice Papers are great and substantial resources to prepare your child for the upcoming exam. But the question is, how do you prepare for such exams and make the most out of the 11 Plus Practice Papers?
Focus on understanding rather than completing the practice papers
Quality over quantity. Just because your child has finished numerous practice tests does not guarantee that they are prepared for the exam. It is important that your child understands what he/she is answering rather than completing the practice papers.
It does not matter how many items your child has answered. What matters is how many questions did they get right. It is important to study how the questions are framed and how to arrive with the correct answer.

Help your child broaden his/her vocabulary
The 11 plus exam will require children to have a wide range of vocabulary in order to achieve a high mark. The English and Verbal Reasoning part are sections in the exam that will test your child’s vocabulary. As stated, it is more important to focus on understanding than competition.
To help your child to get a high mark in 11 Plus Vocabulary, you can practice asking them to pick small numbers of words weekly (5-10) and use these definitions in a sentence. Keep track of the synonyms and antonyms of these words to further understand them as well.

Analyze your mistakes
A good strategy to be able to make the most out of the 11 Plus Practice Paper is to go back to your mistakes and analyze why you made those mistakes. Although it won’t hurt to practice test taking skills, the best strategy is really to go back to your child’s mistakes and understand how to get the correct answer.
Do not focus on the scores on the paper but instead, focus on the learning. It is through a deep understanding of content that your child will succeed in the exam.
