Sleeping when you Have Psoriasis – What you Need to Know 

Most adults have experienced a lack of sleep or insomnia at one point in their lives. Lack of enough night sleep can cause discomfort and make it difficult to go through the day. It increases stress and worsens other conditions like Psoriasis. 

To avoid the effects of lack of sleep, the National Sleep Foundation recommends having at least 7-9 hours of night sleep.

Psoriasis is an autoimmune disease. Your body develops defense mechanisms or immunity to fight diseases. In the process, it releases chemicals that attack the skin and other tissues directly. This causes Psoriasis. The body releases harsh chemicals that can cause inflammations on the skin.

Going to bed late means you are not dedicating enough time to sleep. If you want to sleep longer, for seven hours or more, you want to ensure you go to bed as early as 10 pm. 

This way, you can have enough time for sleep and wake up feeling fresh and ready for the day’s work.

Set a sleep schedule and stick to it. If you make it a routine to go to bed at a specific time every day, your body adapts quickly, and sleeping becomes a regular thing in your life. 

  1. Make your bedroom conducive for sleep 

Making your bedroom conducive for sleep is one thing you should always do. If your bedroom is full of electronic devices like mobile phones, desktops, and TV, you will not have enough sleep. Screens emit blue light, which is one of the leading causes of sleep deprivation. 

Additionally, you want to ensure your room is well-ventilated to ensure free circulation of fresh air as your sleep.

Get an eye mask and some earplugs if you are sensitive to light and sound. You should also get the best sheets for Psoriasis and a mattress that supports your back. This way, you will have enough night’s sleep and reduce the mental symptoms of Psoriasis.

  1. Work out during the day

Working out during the day outdoors can help to fight insomnia. If you want to start an exercise program, you should ask your doctor. Set a 30-minute workout daily plan and stick to it. You can also have aerobic workouts like swimming, biking, walking.  

Stretch for at least 15 minutes a day if you want to reduce the symptoms of Psoriasis. Also, you should avoid exercising close to bedtime. This can cause trouble sleeping.
