Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you know that home scent diffusers are the new trend in making your home smell nice (and as an added bonus, the essential oils you diffuse may have other benefits as well). 1. Room Size

Diffusers come in many sizes and you should choose a size that is large enough to provide coverage in your space. If you’re diffusing in a large space, you will likely want one with a larger water tank, as it will take more vapor to fill the space with your chosen scent.

For a smaller room, a small diffuser with a small water tank should be sufficient, as it won’t take as much vapor to fill the room.

  1. What Type You Want

Just as there are different sizes to choose from, there are different types of diffusers available as well. The main types include:

  • Ultrasonic diffusers, which require a few drops of essential oil with water
  • Heat diffusers, which are similar to ultrasonic diffusers, except they heat the water before diffusing it
  • Nebulizing diffusers, which often use a glass tank or reservoir and do not require you to mix the oil with water (check out these AromaTech scent diffusers)
  • Evaporative diffusers, which use a fan to disperse your oils

  1. Easy to Clean

Because most diffusers use water, mold and bacteria can begin to grow if you don’t clean the water out regularly. Choose one that is easy to clean so you don’t risk anything growing inside of your water reservoir.

  1. Vapor Output

The greater the vapor output, the stronger your fragrance will be. Pick a diffuser that has an adjustable vapor output, so you can pick how strong you want it to be.

  1. How Noisy It Is

If you’re putting a scent diffuser in your bedroom or in a living room where you are watching TV, you will want to be aware of how noisy it is. Reading online reviews is a good way to determine this. Many of them are whisper silent, so be sure to check into this.

Other Features

Some other features that you may want to consider include when purchasing your diffuser include convenience and safety features. Many of these do not add a larger cost to your diffuser, so you can get one with all the bells and whistles without spending too much. Optional features include:

  • A timer to select how long the diffuser is on for
  • Automatic shut off
  • How hot it gets (when oils are heated too high, they may break down)
  • Accessories, such as LED lights
